I was contacted by this company about selling a timeshare I own. I was told this company had a buyer for my timeshare between 15K and 20K and wanted to know if I would be willing to sell for that price. They indicated they buyer would pay all costs but Continental Vacation Services needed to set up a escrow account in the amount of 10% of the selling price. The company said they were not registered with the BBB because of cost. They said my escrow amount would be returned after the sale was finalized and I received a check from them for my timeshare. They indicated papers would be sent to me and I needed to sign the right away so they could transfer my timeshare to the new owner. They said this process would take about 50 days to complete. They asked for my credit card information saying the escrow amount would be charged to my credit card and then returned as soon as the sale was finalized. I was told someone from their quality assurance dept. would call and confirm the transaction. I checked this company out on the internet and the information was alarming. When their quality control person called I had more questions. I contacted a legal adviser who cautioned me on this transaction especially about an escrow deposit or any other payment in advance. Their quality control person said he would call back-he did not. Attempts to contact the company were unsuccessful. In searching publications and the internet this company does not appear to be honest and most likely a scam since other companies using this business approach were found to be engaged in scamming. NEVER PAY MONEY UP FRONT, IF YOU DID NOT CALL THEM -beware, SCAMMING IS ON THE INCREASE DUE TO THE ECONOMY, THESE PEOPLE HAVE CONSIDERABLE INFORMATION ABOUT YOU OFTEN AVAILABLE ON THE INTERNET. 'IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT MOST LIKELY IS' If you have information how to identify these leaches I sure would like to know. June 2010
