We were swimming in debt and with the economy tanking the way it did I thought there was no way out. My hours were cut back at my job and things began looking dimmer and dimmer. We tried to do a mortgage modification on our own with GMAC and they said we didn't qualify when all of the data we had entered into President Obama's Making Homes Affordable plan showed that we did. Even GMAC's formula showed we qualified, but they said we should sell our home and start over again. We knew that wasn't acceptable. I did a lot of searching online and found Spectrum Loan Modification services to be what looked like the best choice to get the Job done. Along the way they changed companies and are now Vanguard. These people got the job done when it looked like it couldn't be done. The whole process took about 8 months but it was well worth the effort. They guarantee everything in writing and they stand behind it. Both our first and second mortgage have now been modified and we are now saving $1175 per month. We are now back on track and we will continue to save money every month. Just think of it, $14,100.00 per year savings for the next five years and then after that we will still save because the first mortgage will never go above 4.5% and the second is now at 5% fixed.
